Audi V10!
Well we've seen most things in V form, most commonly known it the
beautiful power house known the the VR6 (2.8 in the MK3 Golf and 2.9 in
Corrados), more recently came the V5 in the MK4 Golf we've even seen 2
V4s strapped together to make the W8! Now its time for the V10...
For many years now the V10 has pushed the likes of Ferrari, BMW and Jag
to the top of the table in the Grand Prix world, now finally this beast
is being unleashed onto the road. Porsche is planning the Carrera
GT with V10-power and BMW is making its first V10 ready for the coming
M6 and M5.
And the Volkswagen group...
Of course they weren't to be outdone, the baby Lamborghini, the Audi RSR
and the fastsest generation of Audi A6s will be the first to make use of
this spankin engine. Lets hope plans for the new Golf include one
of these mighty lumps!
Audi RSR:
The RSR was the brain child of the forma Audi head honcho Ferdinand
Piëch and will now be completed by Audi’s new boss, Dr. Martin
Winterkorn. The RSR design is thought to remind of the glorious days of
the Auto Union victories in the 1930s and shall also underline Audi’s
ambition to be a serious name in the class of luxury cars.
The mid-engine RSR will be basing on a very rigid yet lightweight
aluminium space-frame and will be powered by a newly developed direct
injecting 5-litre 40-valve V10 producing some 420 HP.
The space-frame used for the two supercar brothers – Audi RSR and Baby
Lamborghini - leaves every choice of exterior design needed to distance
the Audi RSR from the baby Lamborghini that will make its debut at the
same time than the German: in 2003. But not only exterior will be
different.
